  • Can my child practice with the calf while it is in training at Rodriguez Cattle Services?
Yes, he or she can. Just give us a call to schedule a time, and we will be here to help your child. We will work with them one-on-one to ensure both the calf and your child are comfortable and confident.
  • How do I get a quote for services?
Pricing is available for many of our services, but some custom services may not be listed. Prices are also subject to change based on your animal's specific needs and required resources. Please contact us directly for the most accurate quote tailored to your situation.
  • What is halter training, and why is it important?
Halter training teaches your cattle to lead, stand, and present calmly. We also expose them to common show noises through sound exposure therapy, reducing the risk of spooking. Proper training is crucial, especially for junior show exhibitors, to ensure the safety of both the handler and the animal.
  • What is the best age to halter break my calf?
We recommend starting halter training once the calf is weaned. This is typically the best time because the calf is young enough to learn easily but strong enough to handle the training process.
  • What is synchronization for AI and ET?
Synchronization aligns the reproductive cycles of your cattle, allowing for timed breeding using Artificial Insemination (AI), Embryo Transfer (ET), or natural service. This can increase early-season calving, improve conception rates, and lead to a more uniform calf crop.
  • Why is hoof trimming necessary?
Show cattle often don’t wear down their hooves naturally like commercial cattle. Overgrown hooves can cause discomfort, lameness, and structural issues. Regular trimming keeps your cattle healthy and show-ready.
  • What is brand shearing?
Brand shearing involves using a blade to shave around the brand, improving visibility and definition. This is especially useful before shows and sales to ensure your brand is clear and professional-looking.
  • Are there risks associated with the cattle business?
While we take every precaution to ensure your animal's safety, working with livestock always involves some risk. Illness, injury, or death can occur due to natural causes or unforeseen circumstances. We recommend obtaining insurance to protect your livestock investment.
  • What happens if my animal is injured or becomes ill while in your care?
We are not liable for any illness, injury, or death of an animal while in our care, during transit, or at a show. We do our best to ensure the safety and well-being of your cattle, but we encourage you to maintain appropriate insurance.
  • How do I arrange animal records and registration assistance?
We can help you register new calves, transfer ownership, obtain AI and ET certificates, and set up your ABBA membership. Contact us to get started and simplify the process.
  • How often should I feed my show cattle?
We recommend feeding show cattle a specialized diet designed to support growth and condition. At RCS, we typically feed square bales twice daily, along with complete feeds like Nutrena Beefmaker Texture - 12 (GD). Proper feeding is vital for show success.
  • What if I need a service that’s not listed?
We are a small, family-run business and try our best to meet the needs of our customers. If you need a service that isn’t listed on our website, please reach out. We’ll do our best to provide the service or refer you to someone who can.
  • Why does your pricing vary?
